Today, as a company or any other type of organization, it is a necessity to have a website for individuals to learn about you or purchase products.
There are a couple of things you need to set up a website:
1. Domain Name (e.g. www.google.com, www.yahoo.com) – Domain Names allow users to quickly access your site. You should pick a TLD (Top Level Domain) that ends in .com (mostly for businesses), .org (mostly for organizations), .net, .us, .mobi (mostly for mobile sites). The list of TLD’s to choose from is endless. A Domain Name should cost anywhere from free to $10 a year. It is unnecessary to pay for more for any domain name. You can purchase domains at a domain name registrar. For more affordable, reliable registrars: Domain Company Comparison Chart
2. Hosting Account (A place for you site to be stored online) – First determine what type of server you need based upon your site and it’s coding language and functionality. The two main hosting accounts available are Linux (used for PHP, etc.) or Microsoft (used for ASP, etc.). After choosing the server type, identify how extensive your site usage will be. For small businesses or personal web pages a shared hosting account is the most cost effective and space efficient. However, if you are running a site like Facebook you may need dedicated servers.
3. A Website – Last but not least, you need a website. With the development of Web 2.0, I strongly recommend an interactive site that engages all users. If you are a beginner, I recommend the following link:
